What is on Tunnell Street
Students from all over Texas travel to train at this yard; for you it is down the road. The site has a classroom with a crane simulator and an outdoor training yard with telescopic cranes in fixed and swing cab configurations, a lattice boom crawler crane and a tower crane. The NCCCO practical exam course is laid out in the same yard, so you can train and test without leaving town.
We are a CCO EDU Accredited Training Provider, and our courses are approved by the Texas Workforce Commission. That combination matters if you want workforce funding or plan to use VA education benefits.
Come see it before you sign up
The best way for a local to decide is to visit. Call (214) 763-0513 or text (469) 319-9009 and let us know when you want to come by. Office hours are 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday. On a typical visit you can:
- Look at the training cranes and the practical exam layout.
- Sit at the simulator and see how new students get their first feel for the controls.
- Ask which course fits your experience, and go over start dates and tuition.
- Bring paperwork questions about Workforce Solutions or GI Bill® benefits.
Calling ahead helps, because instructors are often out in the yard with a class. Directions are on our location page.
Why living nearby helps
Most of our students spend a good part of each day driving or living out of a bag. You skip both. That shows up in small ways: you are rested when class starts at 7:00, you can review load charts at your own kitchen table, and family schedules barely change.
Neighbors in Combine, Crandall, Balch Springs and Mesquite get much of the same benefit, with a drive of a few minutes rather than an hour. Since housing is not a concern, there is no reason to pay for a premium course; the standard courses cover the same training without lodging.
Work along the US-175 and I-20 corridors
Southeast Dallas County and western Kaufman County have seen steady growth in warehouses, distribution buildings and industrial parks, helped by quick access to US-175, I-20 and I-45. The southern Dallas County logistics area often called the Inland Port is a short drive west. Highway and bridge work, utility jobs and commercial building round out the picture.
For someone starting out locally, a telescopic crane certification is usually the most useful first credential. Ground crews on these jobs also need qualified riggers and signal persons, and that can be a first step in itself. If you want to be the person in the cab of a crawler crane on a bridge job, add lattice boom training later.
Paying for training as a local
Seagoville is mostly in Dallas County, so most residents should contact Workforce Solutions Greater Dallas about WIOA funds. A small part of town reaches into Kaufman County, which is served by Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas. The board, not the school, decides eligibility.
Veterans can use Post-9/11 GI Bill® or Veteran Readiness and Employment benefits; see our VA information. Self-pay tuition and employer sponsorship are covered on the funding options page.
