The northwest route
From Farmington, drivers usually take US-550 southeast to Albuquerque, then I-40 east toward Texas. That is Albuquerque's full day plus the US-550 leg, so most people split the drive or fly. Four Corners Regional Airport is in Farmington. For more flight choices, students drive to Albuquerque International Sunport and connect to Dallas Love Field or DFW. Either way, training is at 304 Tunnell St in Seagoville, not in San Juan County.
Farmington's heavy work has long included energy, pipeline and plant projects as well as schools, bridges and commercial buildings. Telescopic cranes, lattice boom crawlers and rigging crews all show up, depending on the job. Name the crane when you call. A tower crane course is the wrong week if your next job is a crawler, and the reverse is also true.
What the week looks like
You will be in class and in the yard on weekdays. Load charts are part of the day, not an optional extra, because the written exams test them. The what to expect page and the schedule are the two pages to read before you ask an employer or a counselor for time away.
NM DVR for Farmington clients
Miller Crane Works is an approved vendor for the New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (NM DVR). Farmington clients who are eligible can ask a counselor about funding. The counselor decides. Distance does not change that rule, and it does not add lodging to a DVR authorization by itself. Course steps are on the New Mexico DVR page. Call 214-763-0513 and we will work with your counselor.
From Farmington, the next page people open is usually Bloomfield. The full list is on the New Mexico crane training hub.
